John Botsford

John grew up in Grand Forks and is a graduate of the University of North Dakota with a degree in physics. His career path changed after he started farming near Thompson, North Dakota during his college years. Following graduation and with an increasing interest in agriculture, John joined his father’s company – Botsford & Rice (since 1946). In addition to its traditional business lines of farm real estate sales, farm management, and ag appraisals, John pioneered the first trading platform for agricultural co-op stock sales by creating a secondary marketplace for trading American Crystal Sugar Co. stock. Botsford & Rice was acquired by Alerus Financial in 1998 and later became Botsford & Qualey Land Company.

Starting Red River Land Company in 2009 along the same business lines, he continues to work with landowners, operators, and sugar beet stock transactions. He has over 40 years of experience in the land sales, management, and appraisal business.

John and his wife, Dawn, have one son, who is a physician in Minneapolis.
